Dai Viet
Vietnam was the area of Southeast Asia where the people were least influenced by India. Vietnam ended up being dominated by China because it is located in the costal region just south of there. During the Han Dynasty around 100 BC, China took over northern Vietnam. Vietnam did not manage to break away from China until about a thousand years later in 900 AD when the Tang Dynasty weakened. The kingdom was named Dai Viet in 939 when it became independent again.
Like many other countries in the surrounding areas, the Vietnamese adopted much of their culture from China, like Buddhism and their government. At the same time, they also tried to keep their own independence and show that they are their own country with their own cultural differences. For example, the Vietnamese women traditionally had more freedom and say than Chinese women did.
The Ly Dynasty (1009 - 1225) located their capital at Hanoi on the Red River Delta. They had a long-lasting central government, encouraged agriculture and trade, and improved transportation on the road and water. Even after the Ly Dynasty fell from power, Vietnam still follows many of the ideas from that dynasty.
